THE FIG TREE SHALL NOT BLOSSOM

fig-treeHab 3:17 & 18: Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

These poignant expressions of lament were penned by Habakkuk the prophet who ministered  to the nation of Judah just before the Babylonian captivity. He gives the reader a picture of total loss from an agrarian perspective. The fig, the grapes, the olives and the cattle, a farmers means of sustenance, all of them have either failed or have been lost; the cattle taken not just from the fields where they were grazing, but also from the fold.

And yet, despite coming to the end of that road where hope fades into thin air, and mourning and lament looks like the order of the day, the prophet offers unshakable hope in God. When everything  fails, God begins, He begins to show you that He can, no matter what the circumstance be. He begins to show you that it is your attitude towards Him that matters, that the attitude you display in your brokenness is the altitude you get to soar in your God-given assignment.

Coming to the end of you road, your resources, is your time to experience the supernatural. Remember, when you come to the end of the road, it is time for a new season, a brand new assignment. Get excited. Get ready!
