Sleeping through the Storm

Christ_in_Storm_on_Sea_of_Galilee_Ludolf_BackhuysenThe Bible: Luke 8:23-to-25

But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.
And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
And he said unto them, Where is your faith?

The only person to whom historical distinction for having slept through a storm can be given is Jesus. He literally slept! and with that made one of the profoundest exhibitions of faith. That it is possible to sleep-rest-in the midst of the greatest tragedies of our life, if we know that God exists, and that He is in control.

Our tragedies are what they are and what they appear to be, for we do not adequately trust God. For when He says to take no thought for our life–Matthew the sixth chapter–we do exactly the opposite.

We are consumed by thoughts of ours and our families well being, we think much and often enough for these thoughts to shape into worries, and worries left to themselves can turn mentally torturous , for worry seldom ends not being depressive in nature.

Thoughtlessness is the key that can unlock the door to joyful living, listen to what Jesus has to say: which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

God’s greatest pleasure is in being trusted by us, and conversely His greatest hurt is in not being trusted.

Resting in Him and sleeping through the storm should be the attitude of everyone who follows Jesus.

P.S

Isaiah 54:11 – O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay the foundation with sapphires.

O thou afflicted: Listen, he has the power to transform you into someone healthy: spiritually, mentally and physically. There is no suffering that he cannot heal.

Tossed with Tempest: His voice calms the severest of storms. The violent storms of doubt and the extremely ravaged  will of yours can find meaning in his words.

And not comforted: His word is the balm that soothes all your pain. Pain excruciating, wounds: deep and bleeding. Jesus is the balm. Apply him and be comforted.
